Dan M. Evans

Dan M. Evans was born on April 1, 1927. He became a respected law enforcement officer, state investigator, golfer, and community leader. He was a graduate of Prairie View A&M University and Sam Houston State University. Dan joined the Dallas Police Department around 1956. During the early years of his career, he served in undercover narcotics investigations, accepting dangerous assignments to gather evidence against illegal drug dealers. His investigative work and courtroom testimony contributed to successful criminal prosecutions. He later rose to the rank of sergeant and retired from the Dallas Police Department in 1977 after 21 years of service. Following his retirement from the Dallas Police Department, Dan continued his public service as an investigator for the State of Texas. His distinguished careers reflected his lifelong commitment to law enforcement, public safety, and service to others. Dan was also an accomplished golfer and an influential member of the Pro-Duffers, a national African American golf and community service organization. He was the longtime golf partner of Foster Kidd and was involved in the organization's early national development. Dan helped establish the governing structure of the Pro-Duffers and participated in drafting its national constitution. He later served as National President of the organization from 1996 through 1998. Dan married Ernestine J. Evans, a dedicated educator who taught in the Dallas Independent School District for 36 years. Dan and Ernestine shared approximately 61 years of marriage. They were the parents of a daughter, Sharon Evans Wright, and the grandparents of Edward Wright and Mervin Wright Jr. Dan M. Evans passed away peacefully in Duncanville, Texas, on May 31, 2017, at the age of 90. He is remembered for his distinguished service in law enforcement, his leadership in the African American golfing community, and his devotion to his family and community.
